The history of the museum dates back to 1934 when the St. Paul Craftsman Club formed and began building an O-gauge model railroad. From there, it has become the Twin City Model Railroad Museum, a world-class museum dedicated to model trains and railroad history. In the beginning, the museum started in the back room of a Grand Avenue business, and eventually moved to the historic St. Paul Union Depot, where the trains would run outside. The museum also went through a series of temporary locations when the St. Paul Union Depot was being renovated.
For kids, there are many other attractions to explore in Saint Paul. Falcon Heights is a neighborhood of Saint Paul in Ramsey County, just north of the Twin City Model Railroad Museum. This area is known for its many art galleries, but it’s also home to the world-famous Bob Dylan mural. This mural was painted by Eduardo Kobra in five weeks, and the proceeds from it benefit the ongoing restoration of the basilica.

The Mill City Museum was built in 1873, and features original water turbines. The adjacent Washburn A Mill was a sister building during milling operations. The Mill City Museum explores the history of Minnesota and the Industrial Revolution, as well as labor struggles and the General Strike. The museum is open Thursday through Sunday.
