From a roofer to Saint Paul’s roofing company.
Sellers Roofing didn’t start in a boardroom. It started with a roofer who got tired of watching homeowners get burned by out-of-state storm chasers and franchise crews who couldn’t even pronounce the neighborhoods they were tearing apart.
In 2017, Ted Sellers founded Sellers Roofing Company with one belief: Saint Paul deserves a roofing company that actually shows up, answers the phone, and stands behind the work.
Ted had spent years on the tools — swinging hammers on Twin Cities roofs before he founded the company. He knew how a roof was supposed to go on. He also knew how it usually went wrong: rushed installs, unwritten warranties, crews vanishing the moment a leak showed up.
So he built the company he wished homeowners had access to. Union crews. Written scopes. Warranties registered in the customer’s name. A real human answering the phone — usually Ted himself, occasionally Keith.
Keith Dawson came on as Co-Owner and Operations Manager — a longtime partner who now runs day-to-day field operations. While Ted handles estimates and the front-end of every job, Keith is the one on-site making sure crews execute and homeowners are taken care of from tear-off through final cleanup. You’ll see his name come up over and over in our Google reviews for a reason.
Nine years and 1,100+ completed roofs later — 801+ residential, 300+ commercial — Sellers Roofing is one of the only roofing companies in the Twin Cities that’s Black-owned, MBE/DBE-certified, and union-built with three Minnesota locals: Roofers Local 96, Carpenters Local 322, and Laborers Local 563.
Every job is signed off by a union foreman. Every estimate is written by Ted. Every adjuster call is answered by a real human. That’s the standard.

Ted Sellers
Ted Sellers founded Sellers Roofing in 2017 after years working the tools through Roofers Local 96. Originally from South Georgia, he made Saint Paul home and built one of the only Black-owned roofing companies in the Twin Cities from the ground up.
Ted writes every estimate personally. He attends adjuster meetings. He answers the phone himself most mornings. When a Sellers Roofing crew shows up at your house, the man whose name is on the door is the same one who measured your roof and signed your scope.

Keith Dawson
Keith Dawson is Co-Owner and Operations Manager at Sellers Roofing — the partner who runs day-to-day field operations and personally oversees jobs from tear-off through final cleanup.
